Statistics

Knowledge is power and knowing your weaknesses and strengths is rarely obvious in this game. For years I would have sworn to you I was a good putter, decent iron player, okay driver, and had a terrible short game. But the numbers don’t lie and my ‘shots gained statistics’ revealed to me that my assumptions were completely wrong. With this new found knowledge, I’ve been able to adjust my practice and enjoy the challenge of working on my weaknesses.

The app I use to track ‘shots gained’ is Golfmetrics. It’s designed by none other than Mark Broadie, the man who created the ‘shots gained’ statistic that virtually every PGA golfer uses to better understand their game. A simple google search of ‘shots gained’ can help explain it’s importance to understanding your own game, but I highly recommend Broadie’s book, Every Shot Counts.
